The thyroid is a gland in the front of our neck and plays a vital role in our body’s metabolism. The thyroid gland is ultimately responsible for our body’s production of two specific hormones: T3 and T4, which help regulate our metabolism. When the thyroid gland is not functioning properly it can affect thyroid hormone production. Many symptoms or problems can develop due to abnormal thyroid hormone levels. With either too much or too little thyroid hormone; your heart rate, body temperature, weight, energy level, and overall mood can be affected. Thyroid disorders can develop from a multitude of causes and women are more likely to be affected than men. Goiters, nodules, and masses can significantly alter thyroid function and hormone levels. Medications, neck surgery, autoimmune disorders, and inflammation of the thyroid are potential causes of thyroid dysfunction and/or disorders.
Common symptoms associated with thyroid dysfunction / disorders include:
- New onset or worsening anxiety
- Heart palpations (fluttering) and/or irregular heart rhythms

- Enlargement or swelling to the front of the neck
